I have tried Keto before and my body literally shut down after the first two days. But since then I’ve wanted to try the Paleo diet, as I still want to eat fruit and other things you can’t on Keto. If you don’t know what the Paleo diet is, think of it as the “Caveman diet.” You basically eat whatever cavemen would have, aka fresh fruit, veg and meat.
I’m only a week into it, so I thought I’d put together a list of things that I would typically buy for myself and Cree to eat.
I’ve put together our first week grocery shop and meal plan, to share it with you guys and so we can look back on it too incase we get stuck on ideas! I’ve obviously made a Pinterest board as well so I can save all the meal idea’s as I come across them!
Fresh Fruit & Veg:
- Bell Peppers
Meat & Dairy:
- Chicken Breasts
- Cream Cheese
- Feta Cheese
- Milk/Heavy Cream
- Beef Broth
- Coconut Water (100%)
- Diced Tomatos
- Mixed nuts – almonds, cashews, walnuts, etc
- You could also buy any herbs you need from here as well
- My Anti-Bloat Green Smoothie
- Bacon, Eggs, Spinach
- Leftover dinners
- Lemon Garlic Butter Steak with Spinach
- Broccoli Chicken Zucchini Boats
- Keto Chili – I’ll make enough to last a few meals
- Cashew Chicken – we’ll be adding cauliflower rice too
Thought I’d mention here that the picture is of my greek salad I made for dinner. It has cherry tomatoes, red onion, avocado, cucumber, red capsicum, feta cheese, all seasoned with salt, pepper and a bit of lime juice. It was so yum!!!
Note that some Paleo dieters don’t eat dairy, however I believe that as long as it is not processed cheese or low-fat milk, I’m fine. I don’t typically eat yogurt or cream anyway, so I’m comfortable with a little bit of milk in my tea or coffee and some cheese every few days. They also aren’t supposed to eat potato’s because of their high carb content, which is fine by me (even though I’m going to miss my mash!)
As it goes for drinks, I typically drink a cup of tea (no sugar) in the morning and at night, and Cree will drink coffee (no sugar) and a tea at night. If we were to have some alcohol, we would opt for gin & soda waters, or rum & water – anything that is sugar-free and low-carb. Obviously aiming for our 2L of water every day.
Technically you’re not supposed to drink alcohol, but you gotta live your life! If you are wanting to try Paleo, please do your research first. I’m not a nutritionist, I am just wanting to document how I get on with how I look and feel!
I will most likely do another blog post in a few months to tell you how it’s going, but please let me know if you do either one of these diets, and how you did you find it? Please link any awesome recipes you wouldn’t mind sharing too!
Wish us luck!!
