While I was working full-time, I would only allow myself just enough time to do my makeup, my hair, get dressed, and eat breakfast, AFTER snoozing for an hour. There was such a strict time on when I should do everything, I was constantly looking at the clock before finally leaving for work.
Right now I am unemployed (I talked all about it in my Where I’ve Been post – go check it out *wink*), so I thought what no better time than now to get a better, more productive morning routine going, so that when I do eventually get back to New Zealand and have a full-time job to get up for each morning, I would have a morning routine under wraps.
Lets start with – I am NOT a morning person. That’s the first thing I am wanting to tackle. So ever since not working, I have still been getting up at 8am, without the snooze button. This is important to me. I was finding I was in such a bad mood all morning until lunch time, because I was still in sleep mode. My body got soo used to snoozing, that it became a bad habit. So as soon as my alarm goes off, I sit up and scroll through social media for a bit. Sometimes I’ll even jump out of bed straight away.
This is something I’m trying to get into the habit of doing but haven’t mastered yet. I have always had a full bottle of water beside my bed because I usually get quite thirsty before actually putting my head on my pillow. But I now want to drink water when I first wake up. I’ve heard adding lemon to your morning water helps boost your metabolism, plus it’s a refreshing addition to my morning routine.
Always get dressed and ready for the day
I love my pyjamas. As soon as I’d get home from work I’d shower and get straight into my comfies. Since being at home every day, I’ve noticed I’m way more awake, alert and instantly happier when I take some minutes in the morning to get dressed, put on some makeup and brush my hair. Yes there are going to be days where I want to be makeup free and throw my hair up in a bun, but I’m always going to get dressed and cleanse and moisturise, just to wake up and get going.
Writing a to-do list
I recently got given a beautiful journal, and I’ve been using it every morning to write my day’s plans in it. It’s a helpful way to brain dump onto paper to clear out your mind and have everything you need in front of you. It’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me. (Okay, maybe not the best, but close to it!)
Have a yummy & healthy breakfast
Yeah, the odd bowl of cereal is absolutely amazing in the mornings, but not very filling. So I’ve really been trying to make a good breakfast each morning, whether it be eggs on toast, or a smoothie, or oats, I want it to sustain me well and truly into lunch time. There’s nothing worse than feeling a mid-afternoon slump at 9:30 in the morning!
Please comment what you’re go-to morning routine is!
