This post I feel like has been a long time coming…. I had mentioned in my Asos & Chapters Mini Haul that I’d do those and that was over 3 months ago. Oops! I had brought these oils with high hopes, but unfortunately the reviews I had read online don’t stand up to how I honestly feel about them. I had been eyeing these products up on Asos for a long time. I really wanted to try them because the reviews were good, the price was amazing, and the products look beautiful. I finally gave in, popped them in my shopping cart, and proceeded with checkout.
When they arrived, I was amazed at the packaging even more so. They look and feel so professional, almost like they should be priced higher. The plastic feels really sturdy, and the product comes out of a dropper which I actually love. Now onto the actual product review….
I had to do a bit more research on how to use the Lactic Acid oil. I wasn’t sure if it was meant to be washed off or not – the directions weren’t very clear on how to use the product. I put this on as part of my night time routine, between my cleanse & moisturiser. As it makes your skin more sensitive to sun exposure, it’s recommended you use it at night. It claims to reduce breakouts, the appearance of aging (fine lines & wrinkles), inflammation and sensitivity. However… I have been taking the pill since I was 15 for acne, so I cannot say I’ve noticed a huge difference in my skins appearance. Yes, around my time of month I get a few spots, and I have noticed they don’t come to anything since using this oil, but I can’t say my fine lines or redness has reduced any…. I do love the feeling of it on my skin. It soaks in very quickly, and doesn’t sting or cause any irritation.
I was very intrigued by this product. I thought “Yes an oil for my skin during the winter months is exactly what my dry-combination skin needs,” but I’m not impressed. I feel as though the product just sits on top of my skin all night, and I hate that oily feeling when it comes time to roll over on my pillow and go to sleep. In the morning, my skin is super oily after using this, and I can’t say I’ve noticed any change to my dry areas. I get a really oily t-zone, but very dry cheeks and chin, and I found this did nothing except make my t-zone even more oilier. I have since found an amazing moisturiser which you can read up on in my Winter Skin Care Routine, but I will continue to use this on my nails and cuticles (I read Squalane is also good for that.)
So unfortunately I am very on the fence about The Ordinary oils. I don’t really know I feel about them. I don’t hate them, but I don’t love them either. I think if you’re young and on a budget they’re great. But make sure you do your research first and find the right products for your skin type.
Let me know if you’ve tried them and what your thoughts are!
