What’s In My Travel Makeup Bag

A few weeks ago I posted my trip to Australia and New Zealand, and realised I never did a post about my travel makeup picks before I left (yes I’m slapping myself for it!) But lucky for me, everyone is always going on holiday, so I hope this helps pluck some inspiration or tips for your next trip!

I essentially wanted to fit everything in one makeup bag, so for me that was my old (I mean very old) makeup bag I used for Irish dancing competitions back when I was a kid. Its quite a compact size, but still larger than most. However, because I could fit everything in it, it meant thats that only makeup bag I had to pack in my suitcase… plus because of its shape, it fit quite comfortable in the corner of my suitcase with everything piled up around it.

I took a BB cream plus a matte foundation for my face base. Most days I used the Maybelline BB cream for the coverage, because summer in Australia is HOT and I knew from experience of living there that I wouldn’t want makeup packed onto my face in the sweltering heat everyday. Of course there were those nights that I wanted more coverage, and that’s where my favourite Rimmel Stay Matte foundation came into play. So I had both options depending on the coverage I wanted.

I took only one concealer for an under-eye brightener, and the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind concealer did a pretty good job of that. I find it to be a lighter and softer consistency to my holy grail Maybelline Fit Me concealer, which was perfect for the weather I was headed to.

Most of my face products were matte based. With having generally oily skin and being in the heat, I needed something to try and matte-ify that issue. So of course my powder was the next step in that process. I actually went out and brought the Rimmel Stay Matte pressed powder, because I remember how much I loved it last summer! I seriously love this powder – it holds everything in place and keeps your skin looking flawless in whatever weather you might endure.

I took one bronzer and one blush, and that was my trusty Rimmel Sunshimmer Maxi Bronzer and the Revlon Powder Blush in Oh! Baby Pink. I typically just bronze and blush on a normal day, but I also took my NYX Contour and Highlighter palette for those special occasions where I wanted to bother more with makeup. Also took my NYX Eyebrow Cake powder for the eyebrows.

For the brushes, I took my trust old Real Techniques Expert Face Brush & Powder Brush, and some from my new Karity 12-Piece Starter set for the eyes and face.

Onto eyeshadows – I took the Maybelline The Nudes palette, and The Blush Nudes, plus a single shadow from Karity in Diva. Looking back, I essentially could have just taken The Nudes because that’s the main palette I used. BUT lets be honest, I would have wanted the other two if I didn’t take them!

Mascara I only took one – and that’s my all-time favourite Maybelline Lash Sensational. I definitely did not want to take a mascara that  I knew transferred onto my eyelids, or came off during the day. So that’s why I only took one, because I knew I trusted this 100%.

Now the fun part – LIPS! I actually didn’t take that many surprisingly… For everyday wear I packed up my Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Warm Me Up. And for more colour on the lips I packed up my favourite NYX summer colours – Butter Gloss in Cherry Cheesecake, Soft Matte Lip Creams in Istanbul & Prague.

I hope your next summer holiday is full of laughter, sunshine and good memories xx
